I really enjoyed listening to the The plankwalkers - Splash Hits Vol.Two. The more I listen to it, the more I love it.

They are a three piece band, each of them singers and songwriters. Two of the band are London based (the song “Blue rinses” captures a flavour of South London). The third member lives by the sea, so maybe that is why the music has such a nautical theme, very jaunty and upbeat.

I have seen the band perform live, (which I would highly recommend) and listening to the album on its own, without the distraction of their enthralling stage presence, made me appreciate their lyrics and song craft even more.

Atmospheric songs like "pond life" and "doldrums" clearly shows that this band is full of talented and mature artist with years of experience writing and performing music.

Songs like "blue rinses", "all those yesterdays" and “genocide of dreamers” really speaks to us creatives who are not so young any more; as one of their lyrics says “never to old to join a band"

From the intriguing glimpses of their lives in "elle seven" and “the whale song" to the song "loose cannon" which is one of my favourates, I love the way they play with words and ideas.

The music itself is very rhythmic and surprisingly danceable, almost folky, with expertly crafted tension and deceptively simple elegant instrumentation.

It summaries, if you are looking for something refreshing elegant, uplifting and thought provoking, then this is for you. The band is clever, timelessly topical, interesting and fun.

Melvin Thomas, a creative.
